Whiskey Fridays is hosted by Kate Tyson, Wanderwell, and John Gerber, Unlawyer.
We've been colleagues for at least a decade and, in the pre-pandemic "before times", were committed office neighbors. Many weeks, we'd grab whatever bottle was stashed in a desk drawer, a couple glasses and some ice cubes, and catch up over a drink (or two or three). We called these sessions Whiskey Fridays.
Whiskey Fridays podcast features conversations on creative entrepreneurship and small business leadership, as well as "Boss Talks": interviews and conversations with leaders on new possibilities in business and economics.
We are possibly the only business podcast out there to feature special musical guests.
About the Hosts
Kate Tyson
Wanderwell
Kate Tyson (neé Strathmann) is a multi-disciplinary business owner and rebellious spirit, and the owner and director of Wanderwell, an advisory and accounting practice that helps values-driven leaders build small businesses rooted in care. Pairing financial rigor with a systems-change perspective, we guide owners toward people-centered, financially resilient companies, while exploring new models for being in business. We work remotely with clients nationwide, with team members in Vermont, Philadelphia, and Seattle.
Kate has worked with hundreds of businesses, integrating financial expertise with an empathic, vision-forward approach. She leads with the belief that businesses can help create a new paradigm that centers people, community, and the environment. Kate is known as a go-to on alternative business models, building equitable team structures, and being the person that comes to mind anytime someone says "I'm not sure this has ever existed before...”
An artist and insatiable reader & researcher with a punk heart, she's known for balancing empathy and openness with sharp analysis. An expert in translating big, creative, passionate ideas into sustainable reality, she honed fierce negotiation skills over years living in India; learned the true meaning of the buzzword “sustainable” while organic farming in Minnesota; and has developed an intuitive, flexible approach to her work with over twenty years of yoga study practice.
A Philadelphian by birth, Kate currently spends most of the year in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont with her girlfriend and forest-loving dog Josie.
